Passion of an Entrepreneur
I can still remember the excitement and pride I felt when I booked my very first client. But I also recall the immediate dread that rushed over me because now I had to prove to the world that I was as good as I believed. Years and many clients later, I still experience that same elation for being entrusted to deliver needed services and products.
Like many before me, I liken being a business owner to being a parent of a newborn baby. In the beginning, you must ensure all its needs are met. And while you may have help, ultimately, this child is your responsibility. As it grows, you are constantly researching the best foods, clothes, toys, doctors, etc., to meet the desired benchmarks used to measure success. Whether your business is two years old or twenty years old, its hold on you is undeniable.
Each interaction is a representation of you. Customer service and all communication with your patrons, clients, and the public at large must always be Accurate, Considerate, and Timely. The lack of choice in any industry no longer exists. If you are fortunate enough to be chosen to provide a service, no matter how small, it is imperative that the customer undoubtedly knows they are valued. Repeat business and positive word of mouth can help sustain you through lean times.
And like new parents, we will experience exhaustion and question if we are making the right decisions. And sometimes it may feel as though will are getting hit with vomit and poop. But when our baby smiles, and we get paid by that satisfied customer, it is the love and passion of being an entrepreneur that keeps us moving forward.
